Even though this year's event is still under COVID-19 hybrid planning restrictions, it draws thousands of people to the northland each year. Getting a place to stay on this weekend is nearly impossible and several people opt for campground stays as far north as Gilbert. The 31st Annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon starts at 6 a.m. followed by the 45th Annual Grandma’s Marathon start at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday. Runners begin crossing the finish line in Canal Park as early as 8 a.m.
We're always friendly to groups coming to Gilbert who want to ride at the nearby OHV Park. West Forty RV Park is happy to serve as host for groups who want a place to call home base while they're in town. We book out early when groups are on site so make sure to book early and secure your spot!

We require a 3-night minimum stay for all campsites and encourage people to book by early August to secure their campsite. We remain open for campers through October 31 and are regularly the last campground in the area to close, but when the weather hits temperatures below 32 degrees consistently or we have a hard/killing frost, we need to turn off water to all campsites. Seasonal campers staying on sites B-1 through B-9 have access to a water hose from the main office building to fill fresh water tanks. All other campers are welcome to fill up their tanks at check-in. Sewer and electric service is unaffected.
For Minnesotans with kids, this is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year and can be a great time to get out and do some fall riding in Gilbert's OVH park. We will be open with electric and sewer service on all of our drive through sites and have a water filling station at our office to fill fresh water tanks at the time of check-in.
Weather in Minnesota is very unpredictable, but we plan to be open right up until October 31 (with limited water service) for those who want to get in some late season riding. At the end of this weekend, we change over to our winter RV/camper storage season and close the gates until next year!
There is always something to do during the camping season in Gilbert or in the other nearby Quad Cities of Eveleth, Mountain Iron or Virginia. As we hear of new popular events, we add them to our online calendar below. If you have an event that you would like posted, please use our Contact Us form to send us more information and include it in our list.
